12. What do I put in the H&S Section of my schedule?

The Health & Safety Section within the schedule is for the installer to provide information for the Maintenance Engineer and is not generally related to the installation works, unless explicitly stated in the guidance.

 

Residual Risks: A list of unusual, unforeseeable or unexpected residual risks that a maintainer will need to take into account when formulating work-specific risk assessments. This should also include reference to any access restrictions, access equipment, training or PPE likely to be required when carrying out the task. Refer to residual risk information located in the manufacturers’ literature by detailing the relevant section and page.
For further information refer to the HSE website from which the following guidance is extracted.
“In any given workplace there would be a large number of hazards which duty-holders could address. However, requiring duty-holders formally to address them all would place an excessive and largely useless burden on them. So as not to impose unnecessary burdens on duty-holders, HSE will not expect them to take account of hazards other than those which are a reasonably foreseeable cause of harm, taking account of reasonably foreseeable events and behaviour.”

 

COSHH Data: A list of substances that the maintainer will come into contact with when carrying out the recommended inspections and maintenance. These will typically be items such as lubricants, fluids, gases, but can also extend to fumes, dusts, vapours and biological agents. The information provided should reference any MSDS/COSHH datasheet to enable the end-user to formulate a work-specific COSHH risk assessment. For further information refer to the HSE website. Disposal & Removal: Information on the removal and disposal of any consumable items and waste e.g. oil, lubricants, batteries, filters. Refer to any items of plant that have unusual or specific sequences that the user will need to be aware of when removing or replacing the plant or equipment. Examples include; equipment on a roof that needs cranes in a specific position, equipment that needs walls or floors removed.
